Exceptionally comfortable, the frame of the Paulistano chair is made of a continuous 17-foot single bended steel bar (shaped under 200 lbs of hydraulic pressure over 24 hours) and then welded in a single spot. This deceptively simple structure is then wrapped in almost an entire hide of leather, with no surface modification, that will gain depth and lustre as it ages.

Originally designed in 1957 by Paulo Mendes da Rocha, the Paulistano armchair was for many years an iconic feature in the lounge of the Paulista Athletic Club in São Paulo. The constructivist concept of the structure, made up from a single bended steel bar and a leather cover, give this armchair an aesthetic lightness and an incomparable comfort. This classic design is now part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art New York (MoMA).
