In this week’s edition of Freddie Grubb Focus, we are taking a trip down our native Amwell Street, London to point the spotlight on our stylish neighbours - the Gents of London Barbershop.
Founded by Pete Donoghue, the traditional looking barbershop offers “classic and contemporary cuts for the everyday London gentleman“. Their old-school interior boasts a retro sound system playing a wealth of Mod influenced music from Brit-pop to Ska, Soul to Indie. As you walk in, you get the impression these guys know exactly what their doing, the vibe is right, the coffee is strong and they look sharp.
As I take a seat in one of their traditional barber chairs, I discover that Ray Winstone was recently filmed in it for a BET365 advert. Not surprising given the old-school London aesthetic of the place. It turns out they often get requests from location scouts to shoot there.
The Gents of London Barbershop also happens to run a successful Barber Academy providing training and NVQ courses focussing on quality one-on-one training. Certainly not a bad place to learn the trade and only emphasises their commitment to the craft of barbering.
Situated just down the road from the Freddie Grubb bicycle shop - 5 mins walk from Angel tube and 10 mins from Kings Cross, the Gents of London Barbershop is well worth a visit if you’re in the need of a fresh cut.
